Backyard Blackberries

Ah, the of the joys of summer in the Northwest!  And the simple pleasure found in blackberry lime-aid!  Blackberries are wildly abundant right now. But in harvesting these juicy little morsels- pickers beware- they are thorny little buggers so there’s a price to pay. It took several hours to net the amount of berries I’d set my sights on, which gave me plenty of time to contemplate the merits of purchasing vs. picking.  But ultimately, how could store bought win out over spending time in the sun (slathered in sunscreen of course) on a beautiful day? And since nothing puts a smile on my face like torturing my sassy assistant Liana, I put her to work, pushing pounds of puree through a sieve to remove the seeds and solids.  Needless to say, she’s bitter. Not to worry, I’ll sweeten her up with some of our freshly pressed blackberry lime-aid…
